However, visitors are likely to find that the cheapest accommodation option in the city is a budget hotel. In total, Amsterdam has 27,000 hotel rooms. While this may sound like a large number, advance reservations are strongly recommended, particularly at weekends and in season (early spring to late autumn) when the city is bursting with visitors. As a result, the only time hotel discounts are available is in winter, between 15 November and 15 March.
